This is a devotion for Terri in this season she needs to hold both the weight of her suffering and the unshakeable nearness of God. Here is one crafted with tenderness, strength, and the kind of hope that does not pretend—but perseveres.
A Devotion to Terri: When Breath Is a Battle
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
There are moments in life when breathing—something so ordinary, so automatic—suddenly becomes a battlefield. Lung cancer has forced Terri into a fight she never asked for, a valley she did not choose. Yet even here, in the shadows of fear, fatigue, and uncertainty, God has not stepped away. He has stepped closer.
God does some of His deepest work in the places we would never volunteer to go. When the body weakens, His strength becomes more visible. When the nights stretch long, His presence becomes more precious. When the future feels fragile, His promises become an anchor that will not break.
Terri is not walking this valley alone. The God who formed her lungs, who numbered her days, who calls her His beloved daughter—He is holding her with a grip that sickness cannot loosen. He sees every tear, every breath, every quiet moment of courage. And He is not finished writing her story.
Even now, God is surrounding her with love through family, through prayer, through the gentle ways He whispers, “I am with you.” Hope is not the denial of reality; hope is the declaration that God is greater than the reality we face.
Where the body struggles, the Spirit strengthens.
Where fear rises, grace rises higher.
Where pain speaks loudly, God speaks louder.
Terri’s life is still full of purpose. Her faith, her resilience, her very breath—each one is a testimony that God is near, God is faithful, and God is working in ways seen and unseen.
Prayer
Father,
We lift Terri into Your healing hands. You know her pain, her exhaustion, her fears, and her hopes. Surround her with Your peace that surpasses understanding. Strengthen her lungs, her body, and her spirit. Let Your presence fill every room she enters and every moment she endures.
Give her courage for today, rest for tonight, and hope for tomorrow.
Hold her close, Lord, and remind her she is never alone.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
