Reflective Devotional: Power and Obedience in Ministry
“He changes times and seasons; He sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning” (Daniel 2:21, NIV)
The God of Israel, sovereign over all creation, wields His power with unmatched wisdom and authority. He orchestrates the ebb and flow of time and the rise and fall of rulers. His divine wisdom is bestowed upon those who earnestly seek it, enriching the discerning with profound knowledge. Despite humanity’s attempts to assert independence from Him, His sovereignty remains unchallenged, guiding the destinies of nations and individuals alike. God’s power is absolute, yet His love and mercy overflow, offering grace and blessings to His people. He yearns for a relationship with us, longing to enrich our lives with His incomparable riches, as beautifully expressed in His kindness through Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:7, NIV).
Reflecting on the life of Daniel, we encounter a powerful model of obedience and faithfulness. His unwavering commitment to God amidst adversity reveals a profound trust in God’s sovereignty. In interpreting dreams and delivering divine messages, Daniel uses his God-given power with humility and integrity. He continually seeks God’s wisdom, prioritizing divine guidance over human favor. Daniel’s approach to power is characterized by a deep respect for God’s authority, using his influence to glorify God and serve others.
In the Gospels, Jesus’ use of power shines as both profound and transformative. Endowed with divine authority, He heals the sick, raises the dead, and forgives sins. Yet, His greatest strength is often displayed through acts of servanthood and compassion. Jesus interacts with others with empathy, humility, and a relentless pursuit of justice and mercy. He challenges societal norms and extends grace to the marginalized, embodying a leadership style that is revolutionary and deeply relational. Through His life and teachings, Jesus inspires us to follow His example, using our power to serve and uplift others, reflecting the love and grace of God.
In reflecting upon our lives and ministries, we must consider how we wield the power and influence entrusted to us. In my ministry, I strive to follow the examples of Daniel and Jesus, earnestly seeking God’s wisdom in every decision and interaction. It is vital to use power not for self-advancement, but to serve others, fostering unity and growth within our community. By cultivating an atmosphere of mutual respect and love, we can harness our influence to inspire and uplift those around us. Embracing humility and compassion in our leadership allows us to reflect God’s grace and fortify our collective faith journey.
