A devotional on remembering God’s faithfulness

Scripture

“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.” — Psalm 77:11–12 (NIV)

Reflection

Throwback Thursday invites us to look back, but Scripture teaches us to look back with purpose. Remembering is not just nostalgia; it can become worship. When the psalmist felt overwhelmed, he chose to remember the works of the Lord. He turned his attention from present pressure to past faithfulness, and that shift helped renew his trust.

We often remember our failures faster than God’s mercy, our worries more clearly than His provision, and our pain more vividly than His presence. But faith grows when we rehearse the truth: God has carried us before, guided us before, forgiven us before, and strengthened us before. The God who was faithful then is faithful now.

Today, let your “throwback” become testimony. Recall a moment when God made a way, answered a prayer, gave peace in uncertainty, or brought you through something you could not handle alone. Write it down. Speak it aloud. Thank Him for it. Memory becomes a spiritual anchor when it leads us back to gratitude and trust.

Today’s Application

  • Remember one specific way God has shown His faithfulness in your life.
  • Write a short prayer of thanks for that moment.
  • Share one testimony with someone who needs encouragement.

Prayer

Lord, help me remember Your goodness with a grateful heart. When today feels heavy, remind me of the ways You have carried me before. Teach me to meditate on Your works, trust Your character, and speak of Your faithfulness with joy. Let my memories become worship and my testimony become encouragement to others. Amen.
